Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez denied receiving kickbacks from anomalous flood control projects in the country, facing the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) on Tuesday.
ICI Executive Director Brian Hosaka gave the statement following the ICI’s closed-door meeting with Romualdez.
Hosaka said he rejected that he was involved in the kickback scheme, particularly how he allegedly had money delivered to him in exchange for infrastructure deals.
“He was asked, and he denied,” Hosaka said.
Romualdez is set to meet with the ICI commissioners to further discuss his sworn affidavit.
Facing the ICI, Romualdez reiterated and maintained that ‘he has nothing to hide.’
“I am here to cooperate fully and help uncover the truth. Wala akong itinatago at walang dapat itago (I am not hiding anything and have nothing to hide),” Romualdez said in a statement.
The former House Speaker will also willingly release his Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs), and said that he is ready to attend ICI meetings if invited again.
“I’m ready to come back to the commission anytime I am invited,” he added.
