US President Trump has announced a successful attack on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the Fordo uranium enrichment plant, as a way to support the Israeli campaign against Iran.
The US government reported dropping a "full payload of bombs" on the Fordow facility. "We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
"A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow," he added. Trump will address the nation at 10:00 pm Saturday, Washington time (0200 GMT Sunday), following his announced surprise strikes.
Trump entangled the US military in the Middle East despite promising to avoid another "forever war." Iran vowed retaliation against US forces if Washington intervened and threatened a "more devastating" response to the attacks.
The government said that the Islamic republic would not halt its nuclear program "under any circumstances."
The US contacted Israel in advance notice of the strikes.
He also called it a "historic" moment for the United States, Israel, and the world.
Iranian media confirmed attacks on the Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz sites.
In a second post, Trump said, "IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR."
