Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo flexed his forms with style to pocket the bronze medal in the men’s floor exercise during the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 24.
The Golden Boy Yulo, who placed second in the mat, flaunted trademark composure in his pet event before sparking a 14.533 showing built on a 5.9 difficulty and 8.56 execution score to trail behind the Brit-tandem of Jake Jarman and Luke Whitehouse.
"I have no regrets, I did my best and gave my all but Jarvis and Luke just happened to be better today. I am grateful that I reached two apparatus and that is a big plus for me," Yulo said post performance.
Yulo opened the floor with a bang, parading a gallant front double pike and a steady twisting tumble to outplace five other competitors and set the tone early while maintaining his sharp coordinations from there.
The Filipino gymnastics sensation, then, sustained his rhythm coming into the latter stages of his routine after blasting a stuck double twisting double layout which gained a 0.1 bonus to bump his score to 14.533 points and land third overall.
Meanwhile, Filipino-Brit Jarman topped his own routine, having outshone Yulo’s performance with a 14.866 production through a near-perfect twisting double layout of his own to lead the podium.
The Englishman Whitehouse then followed suit after outclassing the other gymnasts via a 14.666 output for silver and to round out the British-led podium for good.
"My coach said it's a long time coming. I've had a vault title in the past, but I've always thought of myself as a floor guy, so to go to loads of competitions – Europeans, British champs or world champs – and constantly miss out on a floor final, and miss out on a medal, it's gut wrenching." said 2023 world vault champion Jarman afterwards.
Yulo will now aim to compete in the upcoming vault finals tomorrow, October 25.
